SPRINGFIELD, Ill – State and local police are boosting their enforcement efforts over this Halloween weekend.
More than 1,000 people have died on Illinois roads this year, and Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Paul Wappel says his agency doesn’t want to see that number go any higher over Halloween.
“There’s going to be extra law enforcement agencies out,” said Wappel. “We’re warning motorists about impapred driving. ‘You drive sober, or you’re going to get pulled over.’ And, ‘You drive high, you’re going to get a DUI.’ That’s just how it’s going to work.
Wappel says if you plan to go out, you’re urged to plan your ride home ahead of time, and to report suspected drunk or high drivers by calling 911.
Federal dollars passed through to the State are paying for the extra patrols.
