PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man will spend some time in federal prison, but not as much as he could have, after being sentenced in a burglary case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Jeron McNeal, 29, got a year and a day in prison Wednesday, starting February 1, after pleading guilty back in June to charges including involvement of the looting of a gun store, and providing false statements to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
Prosecutors say McNeal was part of a 30-vehicle caravan that went around the area trying to loot businesses in June of 2020, including Pinnacle Gun and Ammo on Main Street. 29 guns were stolen that night.
In issuing the sentence, a federal judge said McNeal didn’t have an extensive criminal record, and might not have grasped the enormity of what he was doing.
A person with McNeal also pleaded guilty to similar charges and will be sentenced November 5th.
McNeal could have received up to five years in prison.
