PEORIA, Ill. — Following a nationwide search, the City of Peoria has announced the new Chief of Police is Eric P. Echevarria.
Echevarria has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience in Elgin, Illinois, where we worked in the operations bureau, special investigations, major investigations, and also 15 years as a resident officer.
He is also currently the Police Commander of Investigations for the Elgin Police Department.
Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich spoke highly of Echevarria.
“His enthusiasm for the position, his focus on community engagement, and his desire to make a difference in a community like Peoria were strong factors in his selection,” said Urich. “I welcome his ideas and his experience.”
Echevarria said his family is ready to move to Peoria and get to work.
“I look forward to working alongside the Peoria Police Department members in collaboration with the community to strengthen our common bonds, reduce crime, and improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Echevarria.
Echevarria has also previously served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
He will assume the new role beginning on Aug. 2, 2021.
